Instant ballpark

What might your shop's coverage cost?

A few quick questions. We'll give you a ballpark on a Business Owner's Policy (BOP) for a taxidermy shop. No email required, no obligation.

Tell us about the shop

Doesn't have to be exact — close enough is fine.

Your tools, your freezers, your forms, your stock. Stuff that belongs to you.

Capes, hides, finished mounts waiting for pickup — anything that belongs to the customer while it's in your shop. Best guess for a busy season.

If a freezer or freeze-dryer dies over a weekend, this pays for the ruined capes, hides, and biological work inside. $50K is baked in at no extra cost — bump it up if you carry more product than that at once.

Slips, falls, dog bites, sign falls on a parked car. Standard limits work for most shops — bump to $2M / $4M if you do a lot of foot traffic or shows.

Covers the work after it leaves your shop — mount falls off a wall, leaks chemicals, whatever. General liability stops at your shop door; this is what picks it up from there.

Likely starts around
$—

That's roughly where most taxidermy shops like yours start on a Business Owner's Policy.

What's covered at that price

Your stuff $— Your forms, freezers, supplies, tools, finished pieces sitting in your shop — basically everything you own that's used to run the business. Covered against fire, theft, water damage, vandalism, and most common losses.
Your building $— The building itself — walls, roof, fixtures. Replacement cost basis so you can rebuild after a covered loss, not just market value.
Customer mounts in your care $— This is the big one for taxidermists. Anytime you've got a customer's cape, hide, or finished mount sitting on your bench or in your freezer, it belongs to them — not you. This coverage pays out if their property gets damaged or destroyed while it's in your hands.
Spoilage $50,000 If a freezer or freeze-dryer kicks off over a weekend and ruins capes, hides, or anything biological, the policy pays out up to your spoilage limit. Covers power outages, mechanical breakdown, and refrigerant issues.
General liability $1M / $2M Standard bodily injury + property damage. Customer slips in your shop, sign falls on a parked car, dog runs out and bites somebody — covered up to the limits you picked.
Products & Completed Operations $2M aggregate Most folks miss this. After a mount goes home, if it falls off a wall, leaks tanning chemicals, or causes damage because of how it was prepared, this is what protects you. The General Liability stops at your shop door — Products & Completed Ops is what covers the work after it leaves. The full aggregate is available for any single claim (no separate per-occurrence cap).

Your actual quote can land lower or higher depending on prior claims, exact coverage limits, sprinklers, and any add-ons (equipment breakdown, business income, cyber). Most folks come in at or below the number above.
